New features
New editing options available on Reels π½οΈ
Reels editing: A new Reels editor was launched last month that brings together video clips, audio, stickers, and text onto one editing screen. More updates are coming up globally in the next few weeks to make it even easier to get creative with your reels. They include:
Split: This feature allows users to easily split a single clip into two clips.
Speed: Users can speed up or slow down their clips.
Replace: This feature allows users to swap one clip out for another without changing the timing or order of other clips, audio, and other elements in your reel.
These features were previewed at a product education workshop in Instagram's Mumbai office. The aim is to help creators unleash their creativity and earn more from their Reels content.
TikTok Adds New Funding Initiatives for Creators in the App πΊ
TikTok is introducing a new Creator Effects funding program for top Augmented Reality (AR) creators. This program, called the Effect Creator Rewards initiative, will pay creators based on the community's engagement with their effects. The fund for this initiative is $6 million and is available to creators in select regions. For every effect used in 500K unique videos within 90 days of being published, a creator will receive $700 USD. For every additional 100K videos published within the same 90 days, creators will receive an extra $140.
TikTok is also expanding its Creativity Program, which provides direct funding for top-performing clips. This program is an evolution of its Creator Fund initiative, which provides direct payments to top-performing creators based on engagement with their clips. Now, more creators can sign up for the initial program. Eligible creators must be based in Brazil, France, or the US, have an account in good standing, and at least 10k followers with a minimum of 100K views in the last 30 days. Videos must be high-quality, original content that is longer than one minute.
TikTok's goal with these initiatives is to incentivize creators to focus on the platform and create new, original experiences. This could potentially increase the app's popularity and make it more difficult to ban. The company is also looking to establish a more sustainable, consistent pathway to monetization, based on performance.
However, TikTok has not released an overview of exactly how the updated payment process works. The company states that this system will not re-route money from ads, so how it will be sustainable in the long term remains to be seen.
