The Facebook button is disappearing from websites as consumers demand better privacy

Until about a month ago, shoppers on Dell’s website looking for a new laptop could log in using their Facebook credentials to avoid creating a new username and password. That option is now gone.

Dell isn’t alone. Other big brands, including Best Buy, Ford Motor, Pottery Barn, Nike, Patagonia, Match and Amazon’s video-streaming service Twitch have removed the ability to sign on with Facebook. It’s a marked departure from just a few years ago, when the Facebook login was plastered all over the internet, often alongside buttons that let you sign in with Google, Twitter or LinkedIn.

Instagram begins testing ‘reposts’

Instagram has confirmed tests of “reposts” to bring someone else’s content onto your own timeline. It’s similar to Twitter’s retweets or the kind of reshares that are common on LinkedIn, Tumblr and Facebook and are also in testing on TikTok.

Comment: Users have been requesting repost for some time. I think it was a simple way of encouraging users to engage in other ways, hence the higher number of Likes and Comments on Instagram posts. It will be interesting to see if launched, how it's received and how it affects engagement.

New share options for tweets

Twitter has launched direct sharing for LinkedIn and is finally adding direct Instagram and Snapchat sharing to its Android app.

This is long overdue with the options having been available on ioS for some time.

It's also announced a share to WhatsApp button for users in India although I have this too (see below).

Go Live to Close friends

Instagram is testing the ability to go Live for only your Close friends.

To indicate Live to Close friends, the ring around your Profile image will be green.

Chat activity displayed on Insta

Instagram is rolling out an indicator of 'chat activity' such as watching a Reel.

See who's viewed your posts on TikTok

TikTok now let’s people see that you have viewed their posts 👀 and you can also see which followers viewed your posts.

New Facebook Group membership anniversary badge

Meta have introduced a new Facebook Group membership anniversary badge which illustrates when you joined a Group.

It's a white number in a black circle to the right of someone's name. If you click on it, it tells you to follow the group to get the badge.
