How to create effective 'Call to Actions' (CTAs) 💪
Creating effective 'Call to Actions' (CTAs) is a crucial aspect of any marketing strategy. CTAs are prompts designed to encourage a user or reader to take a specific action. They are the key to driving client behavior in a direction that benefits your business or cause. Here are some strategies to create compelling CTAs.
Firstly, the language used in your CTAs should be specific, strong, clear, and persuasive. Verbs like 'Download', 'Sign-up', 'Register', 'Start', and 'Discover' are action-oriented and direct, which can motivate users to take the desired action. The language should be compelling enough to make the user feel like they are missing out if they don't act immediately.
Secondly, creating a sense of urgency can significantly increase the effectiveness of your CTAs. Phrases like “Limited time offer", "Offer ends soon", or "Only a few spots left“ can instill a sense of scarcity and urgency, prompting users to act quickly to avoid missing out. This strategy plays on the psychological principle of loss aversion, where people are more motivated to avoid losing out on something than they are by the prospect of gaining something.
Thirdly, providing value is another crucial aspect of effective CTAs. Longer CTAs that clearly articulate the benefits to the user can be very effective. For example, “Sign up for our new subscription to ensure your tooth brush heads are replaced regularly” not only tells the user what to do (sign up for the subscription), but also why they should do it (to ensure regular replacement of toothbrush heads).
In terms of format, CTAs should be visually striking and easy to locate. Using plenty of white space can help your CTA stand out from the rest of the content. Additionally, using buttons for your CTAs can make them more noticeable and clickable. The design and placement of your CTA can greatly influence its effectiveness.
Finally, it's important to measure the effectiveness of your CTAs and make improvements based on your findings. Analyzing click-through rates, conversion rates, and other relevant metrics can provide valuable insights into what's working and what's not. This data-driven approach allows you to continuously optimize your CTAs for better results.
In conclusion, creating effective CTAs involves a combination of persuasive language, a sense of urgency, clear value proposition, strategic formatting, and continuous improvement based on data analysis. By incorporating these strategies, you can create CTAs that effectively drive user behavior and contribute to your business goals.

TikTok’s new retouching tools are making the app a dysmorphic hellscape 📺
The article from Passionfruit discusses the new retouching tools being tested by TikTok and the potential negative impact they could have on users' self-perception. The new feature, which is part of TikTok's standard "retouch" button, allows users to subtly alter their facial features, such as eye size and face shape. Unlike other social media filters, this feature doesn't disclose its use, leading to concerns that it could exacerbate insecurities, particularly among young users.
One user, Kate Davidson, shared a video of herself using the new feature and expressed concern over the extent to which she could alter her appearance, to the point where she didn't even look like herself. She also pointed out that TikTok doesn't show that this retouching feature has been used, meaning viewers may not realize that the appearance they see isn't real.
The article also mentions allegations that TikTok is applying a retouching filter to the front-facing camera without users' consent. This, coupled with the fact that studies have found that the use of and exposure to filters increase body dissatisfaction in young people, has led to concerns about the impact of such features on body image and self-esteem.
The author concludes by arguing that by integrating a facial feature customization button into its standard menu of editing tools, TikTok is normalizing the alteration of physical features, which could have long-lasting effects on users' self-perception.

'Ducking hell' to disappear from Apple autocorrect 🦆
Apple has announced that it will no longer autocorrect one of the most common swear words to 'ducking'. The change, which will be implemented using artificial intelligence (AI), was announced by software boss Craig Federighi at Apple's developers' conference in California. The AI will use a transformer model to learn context and understand when users intend to use the expletive.
This change is in response to long-standing user frustration with the autocorrect feature, which often forces them to rewrite their messages. The term "damn you autocorrect" has even become a meme and inspired an Instagram account and a song.
The autocorrect change will be part of the iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 operating system upgrades, which are expected to be available as a public beta in July and generally released in September.
