Supreme Court blocks Texas' controversial social media law

The Supreme Court has voted 5-4 to block Texas' social media censorship law, a major boon for tech companies who have been fighting against content moderation laws that would fundamentally change how they do business.

Why it matters: Conservative states have launched a legal war on social media companies in an effort to stem what they see as a wave of censorship, but this decision, like other recent rulings, suggests they face an uphill climb in court.

New features

New style grid coming to Instagram?

According to reports, we could soon see three new changes to Instagram’s grid view.

Firstly, Instagram’s working on a developing feature that lets users customise their grid view by changing the way it crops their feed posts. They can alter the crop and scale to a specific part of the photo after they’ve published a post.

Secondly the platform is publicly testing an update to the grid post display to include posts in 4:5 aspect ratio.

Thirdly, we could also see a 9:16 aspect ratio option for Instagram feed posts coming soon to allow users to optimise for this feed.

These features are currently in development and there’s been no word yet from Instagram on whether they’ll see a full rollout.
